Does a new actor really need a website?
This is kind of like asking a new mother if a baby needs a bottle… OF COURSE any actor needs a web site… If you are Tom Cruise (who seems to not have a web site), Jennifer Lopez (which seems its not really her website), Matthew McConaughey (who for sure cares about his site), and Leah Remini (who just launched a sexy website, and blog that she actually runs). These types of A Listers need a web site for sure… the fans want to know what they are doing and that they are actually human beings.
For a new person jumping into the business, FOR CERTAIN they need a web site, at BARE minimum to secure their name as a domain. Can you imagine what some vampire would charge Tom Cruise for his name, so that he could use his very own name for a domain? I have heard of very minor celebrities paying a vampire as little as $10,000.00 and as much as $50,000.00 for their own name… these trolls hunt IMDB, find newbies, and grab their names before a person ever knew what happened. All of this can be avoided for very little money.
And this is only one small reason to have a web site as a new actor.
Here is another, casting directors hunt for the “right person” all of the time, its their job… I know personally that my own daughter has booked work because she has a web site. A hunting casting director found her and called, and she got work because she has a web site. I have heard about this happening to many others as well.
A web site gives you the flexibility to put up 20-1000 pictures of yourself, 1-1000 different demo reels of your work, your Bio, your Resume, you name it… You can do it on the web, and people will find you. You can have a mailing list to let the world know that you booked a job, and to watch you when it airs… the possibilities aside from PROTECTION OF YOUR NAME, are endless.
There are a few very professional outfits that cater to the actor directly, the best one I have seen is MyActingSite, they are legitimate, and they even have an 800 number and will help you out anytime. Call them at 866.628.0051 and see for yourself!
Do well and make it happen!
